Tryouts are complete

Posted Saturday, March 13, 2010 by Ryan Cavanagh

The Connetquot Boys Varsity Team has been decided. After a grueling four days for both the players and coaches some tough decisions were made. With each player playing a total of 60 games against their teammates a clear ladder has been determined and prepared for Monday's practice. And while there were many surprises during the four days the "Big Three" remained the "Big Three." The three young men that are being referred to are Greg Gittler, Steven Walter, and Brendan Harris. Three players that split time up with the Varsity as freshman and have not looked back. It is clear that this year's Varsity will be counting on our three seniors to carry a bulk of the weight as we take on quite possibly the most challenging schedule in Suffolk County this year. And while the schedule is daunting, I feel that we have the leadership to contend in every match. This year's team will feature 13 seniors and 2 juniors. I have coached each one of these players at some point in their tennis careers and have been thoroughly impressed by their commitment to making themselves better players.

And while it is nice to have such experience as we begin the season, it will also be fun to have the "young guns" around. For the first time since the "Big Three" came up to the Varsity as Freshman the 2010 T-Birds will also have some young freshman faces on the court. Young stars Chris Kash "Cash Money" and Andrew Realmuto "Romo" have proven that they belong and can't wait to show the likes of Islip, East Islip, and Sayville what they are made of.

Congratulations to all the players that earned spots on the team. Please understand that your job is just beginning. The work needs to not only continue, but it needs to become more intense. This is your sport, you must love it, and you must respect it.
