Andrew "Romo" Realmuto means business!!!

Posted Wednesday, March 16, 2011 by Coach Cavanagh
The Connetquot Tennis community was well aware of the talent of Andrew Realmuto for many years. I would see Andrew hitting the tennis ball against the wall at Cherokee Street Elementary School until the sky would begin to darken. Knowing Andrew as a student I was thrilled that in time I would be able to spend more time with him on the tennis court when he entered the high school.

Andrew's 9th grade year saw him vault into a starting position on the Varsity squad that featured 13 seniors. And while he was clearly a singles player, he learned the art of doubles and the importance of its skill set and how it could benefit his career down the line. The coaching staff was very pleased with his development in his strokes and Andrew was given the opportunity to play fourth singles in the teams Sweet Sixteen match-up against the highly ranked and skilled team from Half Hollow Hills West. This was a chance that Andrew did not let slip away. He won an intense match, one that not many felt he could win. That day Andrew became a high school tennis player. A huge playoff win against an opponent and a community that breathes tennis showed that Connetquot and Romo would have to be taken seriously.

As tryouts began for Andrew's sophomore season it was clear to everyone in attendance that the number 1 spot would have to go through Andrew. He blistered every opponent losing only a handful of games in route to his top seed on the team. However, earning this spot was obviously not the goal of this powerhouse. Andrew continues to bring his high level of dedication to every drill and one can only imagine what the future holds for this rising star.
